Sawston Pharmacy are delivering the time-limited Meningitis B vaccination programme in young people. Bookings through the National Booking service are only currently available to the “age group” eligible cohort (17 to 18 year old and born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008).
Individuals who are born on are after 21 July 2001 and starting university or starting at some further education colleges as a residential student for the first time this autumn can only access the service via the find a pharmacy link https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/vaccination-and-booking-services/book-a-menb-vaccination-appointment/
We are aware that not all pharmacies are currently showing up on the Find a Pharmacy link but we also offering walk-in appointments. Please consider contacting us on 01223 727530 in advance to confirm availability of the vaccine.
Our clinics currently available for booking are:
- 31 July between 1400 – 1800
- From 1 August every Wednesday and Friday between 1000 – 1200
Eligible students will need 2 doses of the MenB vaccine for protection, with the first being offered from late July and the second dose from August.
Meningitis B is a rare but serious infection that can become life-threatening very quickly.
Urgent symptoms include:
- Fever, vomiting or severe headache
- Stiff neck or sensitivity to light
- Drowsiness, confusion or seizures
- Cold hands and feet, limb pain, pale or mottled skin
What to do:
- Call 999 or go to A&E immediately if you or your child has serious symptoms
- Do not wait for a rash to appear
- If unsure, seek urgent medical advice
